(Chris Russell photo) Will Shilling and I went to Schacht Family Farm last week for a story on pick-your-own farms. I had the best peach ever. I'll have a full story on local farms in this week's Venture column. For now, check out a harvest calendar and farm list. Award-winning landscape designer Nick McCullough has opened a retail nursery north of New Albany. At McCullough Landscape, visitors are able to walk through the beautiful grounds, get expert advise on growing and pick up lots of rare plants. I'm about 90 percent sure I saw a sharp-shinned hawk sitting low on a tree at the Ohio State Fair. Fishing was great on the Scioto River last week. I waded near the far bank from Scioto Park on Friday night, from 6 to 9 p.m. For smallmouth and rock bass, try a black woolly bugger drifted slowly downstream with an occasional strip. Just before the sun goes down, switch to topwater flies and bugs. Sneaky Petes and small, yellow or green poppers should do the trick.
