I've had some problems with Metro Parks for not pushing more adventurous offerings and extreme sports like whitewater paddling, mountain biking and backpacking. But one thing that the Central Ohio park system does really well is encourage everyday people to get outdoors.

One successful program, the Commit to Be Fit Healthy Hikes, continues Sunday, Aug. 31, at Blendon Woods, a beautiful park in Westerville. The hikes are geared toward a range of people who enjoy being outside, and hikers can chose different paces and paths. A park ranger leads every hike, which start at 1 p.m.
