(ODNR photo) Sorry it's been so long since I've written Nature Notes, but I haven't gotten the chance to do much outside during the past week. The greatest summer since my childhood is waining. That said, here you go: Here's a great video on the endangered eastern fox snake (above). The beaufitul animal is often mistaken for copperheads or timber rattlesnakes -- two serpents you don't want to cross in the wild. This one, though, is totally gentle. A new program is enlisting Ohio hunters to help feed the hungry. I don't write much about hunting -- largely because I've never been -- but I totally back donating deer meat to local food banks. I've been volunteering at the Third Hand Bike Co-op, a great place to get your bike fixed or pick up a used ride on the cheap. Parts are sold for next to nothing, and labor is free. We'll have a full feature on the operation in th Sept. 25 issue.
