Artist: Jah Wobble and the Chinese Dub Orchestra Track: "Happy Tibetan Girl" Album: Chinese Dub here
Mongolian vocals, pulsing bass lines, wildly distorted guitars, shimmering strings, the twang of a Jew's harp and the cut-and-thrash production of traditional dub collide in the most recent project of Jah Wobble, a noted bassist and world-music figure. (Wobble played with Public Image Ltd. and has guested with people like Bono.)
"Happy Tibetan Girl" samples everything in Wobble's global grab bag, which is boundless in imagination and transcends the safe, club-mixed world music people often swipe off the racks at their favorite coffee shop. This is dense, captivating music from a producer who, somehow, integrates competing sounds into something completely unique.
The above link is only a one-minute sample. Wobble's got an embedded player here, but it's a bit tricky.
