Artist: Grizzly Bear Track: "Cheerleader" Album: Veckatimest Listen

It's the sparseness of "Cheerleader" that makes it so damn good. The implication, of course, is that this Brooklyn band has become so good at arranging songs that they don't need to stuff them full of frills that, in the end, mope around and take up space like a box single socks.

From the stunted guitar notes and stop-start percussion, delicate layers do shine through, but they do so quietly and with a perfect pace. Each gentle strum, flute touch and vocal round carries with it a dreamy purpose that brings you into the background of the song, evoking the feel of watching a play from the side of a stage.

These beautiful things bode well for the rest of the album, due out May 26.
