Six bison were transported earlier today to a new home in Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park as part of the county park system's prairie-restoration project at the Galloway nature preserve.

On loan from The Wilds, the all-female herd will live this winter in a 30-acre, fenced-in pasture near the park's Cedar Ridge area. They can be seen from a temporary viewing area located atop a knoll along the Darby Creek Greenway Trail.

Naturalists will host programs and special viewing hours from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, and from 12-4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6.

I got the exclusive opportunity to ride along with Metro Parks staff during the early-morning transport, so you'll get to see plenty of first-hand footage of these magnificent beasts next week.
