The goofy, anything-goes mastermind behind Homage tees couldn't stop rattling off possibilities for throwback designs he's dreaming of during a recent interview about his year-old unisex line.

You've probably zoned out reminiscing with friends about Beetlejuice or Nickelodeon's Big Orange Couch, recounting the best of childhood entertainment.

Ryan Vesler's still stuck in that conversation. Or, more accurately, that era.

The goofy, anything-goes mastermind behind Homage tees couldn't stop rattling off possibilities for throwback designs he's dreaming of during a recent interview about his year-old unisex line.

"If I could collaborate with Disney, that would be amazing," Vesler said. "You could do a Big League Chew shirt, or Chuck E. Cheese's. There's all these little bits of amazingness that I want to go back and study a little bit and then do a shirt and make it cool."

Most Columbus customers know Homage from a design that took over the sidewalks on Saturdays last fall: heather-gray tees stamped with a scarlet "Ohio" that looked like they'd already seen more than their fair share of games.

But besides a great Ohio State selection, he's also offering everything from a black tee with neon green puffy paint lettering spelling out "Skate or Die" to a worn-looking replica of an "Obama for Illinois Senate" shirt.

The shirts featuring causes that people rally around have been bringing in web sales from outside Central Ohio and prompting people to pick up his other designs.

"I don't want to pigeonhole myself into one genre of T-shirts," said Vesler, who draws inspiration from almost any conversation, Wikipedia and random thrift-store finds. Then, he makes them as accurate as possible.

"I think people try to make vintage, but they try to make it too perfect, and what makes it vintage and cool is that it's slightly imperfect," Vesler said. "People feel like they're buying something unique."

But for Vesler, that's not enough. To top it off, he (personally) throws a pack of old-school trading cards into the box before shipping off each online order.

"It's funny because somebody orders a shirt, and they get a pack of 1991 Desert Storm Victory Series trading cards, and they're probably wondering, 'What is this brand, and what are they about?'" he said.
