It's hard to get worked up for another Detroit garage-rock band - hard, that is, until you hear The Hard Lessons. There's nothing wrong with imitating Iggy's grizzled growl, but the honest-to-god singing from Agostino Visocchi and Korin Louise Cox is enough of a palette-cleanser to make you forget the Von Bondies ever existed. That's not to say they offer no twisted shouts, but the rough-and-tumble stuff is blended with power-pop so perfectly as to recall a garage-rock take on the Pixies. And that, friends, is easy to get worked up about.
