With or without window dressing, Pinback's songs would be melancholy pop anthems. But Rob Crow and Armistead Burwell Smith IV are window-dressing connoisseurs, so their band's music is decorated in drum machines, synth sounds and lots of intricate interplay between the duo's guitars. On the recent Autumn of the Seraphs, the result is melancholy pop anthems with a crystalline, futuristic edge - music that sounds unfit for the warm climes of Pinback's San Diego home, but perhaps just right for fall in Columbus.
