Matt White's sound is more Arena District than University District, so it's convenient that he's playing Saturday at the Basement. Folks can show up, hear his radio-ready singer-songwriter fare, pick up a copy of White's new album Best Days, then pour out onto Neil Avenue and over to the Park Street strip. That crowd could do a lot worse than White, whose folksy, soulful pop tunes are a cut above much of the stuff that buckles young ladies' knees these days. Think Howie Day with a faint Jeff Buckley streak. --Chris DeVille
