Caffe Apropos has become a happening spot for locals who stop by for a cup of house-roasted coffee or a delicious pastry. The Harrison West cafe's cozy atmosphere sets the right mood for relaxation.

Even more popular are the cafe's bi-monthly wine tastings, held on the second and last Fridays of each month from 8 to 11 p.m. Nine dollars gets you a taste of five wines - three whites and two reds. And if you arrive between 8 and 9 p.m., you'll also get a free taste of owner Anton Wood's house-made gourmet pizza.

Apropos is open until 1 a.m. on wine-tasting Fridays, to allow plenty of time for tasters to check out the 700 wines and 70 beers in its selection. Most are sold at state minimum and there is never a corking fee.

This was the perfect way for us to spend the cold Friday night last weekend, as we waited for the major winter storm that never arrived.
