7. The Watchmen
Zack Snyder can't evoke the nuclear war paranoia that pervaded society and partially spawned Alan Moore's much-adored graphic novel in 1986, but the filmmaker gets close through sheer reverence. He also takes a mostly smart approach to casting (I defy a big-name star to top Jackie Earle Haley's Rorshach), and best of all, he recreates a lot of artist Dave Gibbons' original imagery.
