Davis got into the bar biz working as a doorman at Flannagan's Dublin - his rough-and-tumble skating skills meant he could throw a guy out, but it was rarely necessary. What do you enjoy about bartending?

I meet so many different people. Especially here, everyone is so kind that comes in. I'm a hockey guy, so I talk Blue Jackets with a lot of the people. Every once in a while we'll get a couple of players that come in and we'll sit down and kick back with them.

Are there any particular players who come in?

[Derick] Brassard, [Jared] Boll come in a lot. [Derek] Dorsett. We had the whole Anaheim team in here one night. My roommate is friends with one of the players, so he brought in all the guys. That was a real fun night. I got to sit back and just talk with the guys. We've had the Ottawa Senators in here.

Is there ever tension with Blue Jackets fans?

Not at all. All those guys that come in after the game is over are just as nice as anybody else. They're so laid-back, none of them are really arrogant.

Did you find bartending hard to learn?

Not really, I picked it up real quick. My one good friend is a bartender and I always asked him questions when we were out, like what's in this drink? How do you do that? Probably the hardest thing was remembering our martini list.

What are people drinking at Bar 23?

A lot of martinis. We have another pretty cool thing we do here, it's called an Ice Shot. It's a shot glass of completely solid ice. When I make it, I put in vodka, rum, Midori, triple sec, a splash of sour, 7 Up and a little cherry - it's good.
