Yes, nacho nerds and taco titans, it's time again for the North Market's always raucous Cinco d'Ohio.

This Saturday, the marvelous North Market launches both its Ohio Proud outdoor Farmer's Market and its official festival season with a day-long party featuring cooking demos, high-test locally grown goodies, lots of music, pinata swings para los ninos and several food-making contests, too.

Some highlights: the opening bell for the salsa-off rings at 10:30 (first place takes $50 in good-as-money certificates, second place gets $25); 11:15 brings a professional chef taco test with a lineup of truly terrific talent including Alana Shock (of Alana's), Matthew Litzinger (L'Antibes), John Skaggs (mycateredtable.com) and John Dornback (Basi Italia), and attendees get to taste all of the top-restaurant-quality results; high noon ushers in piquant playtime for the asbestos-tongued set with an amateur hot-sauce challenge.
