What's the best part about bartending?
I love getting to meet people from all different walks of life. The idea of happy hour is so American, and everybody participates in it.
What's the worst part about bartending?
I'm 23 and my hands have got to be 50 by now. I've washed so many dishes. If I never had to wash dishes, there would be nothing I disliked about bartending.
Sometimes they'll be stacked up past the bar up to my neck and I can't even see the customers. I'm constantly putting on lotion and beer bottles are slipping out of my hands.
What would you be doing if you weren't bartending?
I actually just sent in my law-school applications for Capital and Ohio State. If I get in I'll start in August, but I'll still be here hopefully one day a week.
What do you like to drink?
I like flavored vodka with water. I get that Propel flavor out of it. I trick myself into thinking I'm hydrating during my night out.
Or, MGD 64. I'm a calorie-counting kind of girl. The whole 2.8-percent-alcohol tends to keep me safe, too. There's a reason it's only 64 calories.
What's the best hangover cure?
I had the worst hangover ever and I was watching Food Detectives and they were testing hangover cures. I was anticipating the end so I could get over my hangover. Their conclusion was there is no cure for hangovers. I was so sad I wasted a whole half-hour to find out I was just going to feel like crap all day.
Really, I'm just a big fan of hair of the dog. Gatorade with the same flavor vodka as the Gatorade, and you can't taste it. You get your alcohol and your electrolytes. I'm all about hydration.
Do you have any good stories from bartending?
Bizzy Bone from Bone Thugs-n-Harmony comes in to the [Polaris location] all the time and he walks in wearing his purple fur coat - even in the summer. He is quite a character.
There's a YouTube video of him talking about Beyonce's song, "Listen," and you can tell he's on the patio of Polaris Joe's.
