When it comes to soap, function usually rules over form. Give yourself a rub-a-dub, sing along to the alphabet song in your head and move along to the next task at hand, right?

When it comes to soap, function usually rules over form. Give yourself a rub-a-dub, sing along to the alphabet song in your head and move along to the next task at hand, right?

These soaps will make you want to linger a little longer. They're the kind that are so cute, you can hardly bring yourself to use them. But once you do, and you smell them, you can't stop.

So whether it's a sweet splurge for yourself or a fun gift for a friend, check out the selection below (several of them are made in Columbus!).

Cassette tape soap, $6

Stinkybomb, available at What the Rock?!, Wholly Craft! and Open Doors Studio

Web: stinkybomb.etsy.com

Stinkybomb's soaps began, appropriately, as aloe and olive-oil soaps poured into a to-scale grenade mold. Now, creators Rob and Megan Green have crafted a cassette tape mold complete with the sprockets, screws and label space (she upped the width a bit to allow more sudsing power).

Although soaps on Stinkybomb's Etsy site come unscented, they can be customized to include essential oils and fragrances like sweet orange, eucalyptus or almond honey. Look for them in the Ohio Expo Center with the Columbus Crafty Cotillion at the Ohio State Fair this Sunday.

You Wash My Back soap, $12

Lush, inside Macy's in The Mall at Tuttle Crossing

Web: lush.com

Peace, love and perfectly adorable soap. Most of Lush's soaps are roughly chopped chunks, but this little molded disc is its own bright spot. The yin-yang of subtle scents combines jasmine and citrus in a creamy cleanser that lathers to moisturizing perfection. The compact disc also represents Lush's efforts to keep liquids and preservatives out of their products.

Sheep soap

No. 693, 693 N. High St., Worthington

Web: no693.com

Among No. 693's shelves of French-milled soaps, these are the sweetest. Each sheep in the set features its own scent. The white mutton is fresh and sweet, the black one has a peppery richness. The pair come side-by-side in a pen of loose paper shreds, and the shop carries several other animal-themed soaps in addition to rough-cut blocks owners Crista Johnson and Barbara Guzzo have to dry out before packing.

Island Romance soap, $6

Honey Grove Botanicals, 74 Mill St., Gahanna

Web: honeygrovebotanicals.com

Take a break. Wash your hands. Escape from the everyday. With its bright streaks of berry colors, this soap would please the senses in any bathroom.

Honey Grove owner Barb Drobnick, who makes all of her products, describes this one as smelling of a "tropical afternoon ... reminiscent of a juicy island punch." It's full of rich orange, banana and peach scents.
