The Athens, Georgia, power-pop troupe hits almost as hard as they tour, adding Southern rock riffage and the faintest twinge of twang to the Beatlesesque melodies the city's scene has been known for since the heyday of the Elephant 6 collective.

These guys are a different breed of Athens band - closer to Drive By Truckers than heady neighbors like Olivia Tremor Control or R.E.M. Last year's Mission Control is a no-nonsense affair less concerned with the trappings of art than the sweet simplicity of those moments when a melody erupts into a growl.
