You'll wonder as you watch the parade of bizarre humanity and unsuspecting livestock readied for the telekinetic kill in his adaptation of Jon Ronson's chronicle of an allegedly real psychic spy program conducted by the U.S. military.

As Ronson's alter ego, Ewan McGregor adds little except an in-joke whenever anyone refers to the operatives as "Jedi." And eventually Heslov's sharp satire meanders into territory that's more preachy than funny.

But George Clooney and Kevin Spacey have fun as rivals in the unit, and as its leader, Jeff Bridges finds a nice new shade of Dude.
