Netflix has finally welcomed PlayStation 3 owners to the streaming-video party, extending a service already enjoyed by Xbox and TiVo owners. Think of the immediacy of channel surfing combined with the broad selection of the (dying) video store experience.

For now, the PS3 requires a physical disc that has to be in your machine when you're watching. It's a minor inconvenience for a great service (that doesn't cost extra for Netflix subscribers). Request your disc on the Netflix site, and wait by the mailbox for the familiar red envelope.

I'm already hooked. The library of available titles is limited, but there's a wealth of great movies, TV shows and more, many in HD. If the mood strikes, I can marathon the first four seasons of Lost. Bad day have you in the mood for a comedy? Browse by genre, find a flick and click. And it's all on your TV, so watching movies on your computer can again be banished to dorm rooms.

Hint: If you think Santa is going to bring you a PS3, you might want to request your Netflix disc early so you can stream your own marathon of A Christmas Story
