It's a gloriously simple concept: Shuffle several dozen Columbus rock musicians into new bands for a day and toss them on stage that night.

When Bobby Miller and Shane Sweeney started the Rock Potluck in 2005, they knew it might strike up some new friendships, but they didn't anticipate how far-reaching the ripples would be. One of the bands even stuck together - and in a different way, so did some of the musicians.

"I was interviewing Brian Travis, and he was saying that the very first time he ever met Cassie [Lewis] was at a potluck practice, and they just got married," Miller said. "Then you have bands like Sandwich that have played South by Southwest, and they're going to put out a full-length record. It's pretty crazy."

This year Miller decided to make a documentary about the Potluck. He's been interviewing musicians leading up to Saturday, when eight miniature film crews will document the instant bands' days, from the creative process that afternoon to the performance at Skully's that night.

Miller hopes to screen the documentary at a local theater this spring with reunion performances from one or two of this year's Potluck bands. But for now his focus is on Saturday's main event. Here's the schedule:
