DJs spinning in the clubs and bars of the Arena District should be jealous of Bob Dawson. On some nights, he plays to a pumped-up crowd of more than 18,000.

When the Blue Jackets organist isn't pounding out the Chili Chant from his perch in Section 117, he's cueing the tunes on Nationwide Arena's digital music system. And with 500 songs at his fingertips, he's got something for every occasion on the ice.

"My goal when picking these," says Dawson, "is to try to get something that goes a little above the excitement of the crowd but kind of blends all together."

His playlist runs from Metallica to ABBA, heavy on the rock with a dose of techno and a just dash of pop and country. Songs make the rotation based on input from the arena presentations staff, players, coaches and online feedback from fans.

Dawson does take requests, and he's got the same goal as any good DJ: "There's nothing like playing a song that the whole place goes nuts over."
