Fans of Damien Jurado and similar trembling troubadours should head to Skylab's downstairs neighbor The Shelf to witness "Indiana Mennonite turned Pennsylvania Hebrew Dayschool teacher" Timothy Showalter perform under the name Strand of Oaks.

Showalter's gorgeous "Leave Ruin" is buoyed by its delicate arrangements, but in the live setting, he usually relies exclusively on himself and his guitar.

Fortunately, Showalter's songwriting stands even when stripped down, and his wispy warble is perfect for delivering weary lyrics like "Thought I was too old to have dreams like this/ Covers thrown on the floor and sweat stained my eyes" without sounding too sappy.

He'll be joined by Brooklyn kindred spirit White Pines and Columbus' own The Black Swans.
