About the brewery
Smuttynose Brewing Co. is named for one of the Isles of Shoals, a rocky archipelago several miles off the coast of New Hampshire and Maine. The small landmass was once notorious for a double-homicide (by axe!) that took place in 1873. The brewery's actually located in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, a few miles onto the mainland.
Why to drink it
Besides the delightful brewery name and the mermaid on the label? An enticing but not overpowering sweetness results from the honey malt, but it's hoppier than more familiar wheat beers like Blue Moon. It's a bit on the light side, but the lemony finish is crisp, dry and not at all syrupy.
When to drink it
This is definitely a summer beer - and perfect for hopheads in need of a refreshing drink they don't have to roll their eyes at. Try it with chicken dishes or anything off the grill.
