The Central Ohio Transit Authority is trying to convince young professionals to ditch their car keys with a new social-media campaign based around riding the bus.

The YPCOTA Bus Challenge runs from Thursday, June 17, through July 15.

"It's pretty much trying to get more people who might not have considered riding the bus on a normal basis as part of their lifestyle," COTA spokeswoman Elizabeth Berkemer said. "It takes a bit of a lifestyle change to be a commuter on the bus."

Riders are encouraged to tell bus stories, take photos of rides and post comments to the campaign's Facebook and Twitter pages. During the next month, COTA will award prizes to participants, host photo scavenger hunts and announce special bus-accessible meet-ups featuring food and drink specials.

"We're hoping it will be a good time," Berkemer added.
