It's no secret to Alive readers that Columbus' small-business scene is a strong one.

It's no secret to Alive readers that Columbus' small-business scene is a strong one.

But why is that, exactly? And what can people do to support it?

A group of young entrepreneurs will talk about these topics and their experiences at an intimate roundtable discussion next Thursday.

WhYP Entrepreneurialism, hosted by Young Professionals of Columbus, will be of interest to those who have started or are thinking of starting their own businesses, in addition to those who are just wondering what it takes, president Steven Michalovich said.

Leading the discussion are Joe Spinelli of Spinelli's Deli; Adam Brouillette, a partner in the planned Wonderland project and founder of Couchfire Collective; Malika de Silva, who's planning to launch an eco-friendly women's clothing boutique called Eight; Rob Coats, president of professional networking group Connect Your Life; and Mary McCarthy, president of SCORE, a Columbus-based, national nonprofit that supports small business.
