The woman who directed Central Ohio's record-setting Earth Day event has been selected as the new director of Green Columbus, the nonprofit group behind many local eco-initiatives.

Erin Chacey, who previously worked with the Ohio Environmental Council and the Central Ohio Sustainability Alliance, was hired June 23. Former director Tad Dritz stepped down last month and will remain on the board of directors.

"My vision isn't too terribly different from Tad's," Chacey said. "I do want to be a little more active in the community year-round. Aside from Earth Day, there wasn't a whole lot going on with Green Columbus, and I wanted to change that."

Chacey plans to continue the monthly Green Drinks meet-up and roll out Green Deeds, a monthly opportunity for young professionals to help the environment through community service.
