We can only wonder what "Mulholland Drive" would have been like as a TV series. It was originally conceived as a pilot for David Lynch's return to TV after "Twin Peaks." The show didn't get picked up, but a French studio gave Lynch a budget to extend the pilot into a feature film. Lynch got completely and awesomely surreal in one of the best and most cryptic films of his career, bolstered by an amazing performance by then-newcomer Naomi Watts. "Mulholland" is playing this weekend as part of the Alive-sponsored Head Games series at the Gateway. Nothing like a midnight movie mind-f.
