Dawes hails from California's San Fernando Valley, but it's easy to imagine a sepia-tone Southern gospel band swooning through much of their heavily harmonized Americana output. It's reverent, yes, but not robbed of its joy and urgency - a Paste magazine sort of band with enough elation to capture the imagination of those who find Paste perilously bland. These guys are becoming Rumba regulars, though it's hard to imagine they'll be playing joints that small for long considering the gorgeous chemistry they've stumbled upon. They'll be there Tuesday with equally awesome but potentially mismatched The Receiver.
