I started designing shoes when I was out looking for a pair of Chucks online. I wanted a cool pair, and I didn't like anything they had. One of my co-workers suggested, "Why don't you make your own?" I did, and it just kind of exploded from there.

What I use varies depending on what you're looking for. It can be very toned down with just paint, or then it can be completely embellished. The whole point to doing the artwork on the shoe is to make it look like it came that way.

I've got two closets full of shoes. I can't count. I've always been a shoe-hoarder. I've got my own pair of spiked heels. I went to the Waffle House in them, and you could see the waiters and the waitresses walk by looking under the table.

I've designed pairs for celebrities. Twitter has been my most valuable resource. I'll say, "Hey, let me make you some shoes." Some will ignore me, then others have responded. I've designed for LL Cool J, Raekwon, Noreaga, DJ Tony Touch.

If I could design a pair for any celebrity, it would be Lady Gaga. I would make it the craziest shoe ever. I would just keep adding and adding. I've asked her. She ignored me.

I have to keep moving. I cannot keep still. I have to be doing something. Right now, because it's the summertime, I wake up, get my son ready for camp, come back home and I'm banging out shoes. I'm a one-woman corporation.

Three things I can't live without are my son, creativity and inspiration.

My inspiration comes from everywhere. It's everything. I could be looking in the store for something completely different, and something will hit me - a color or a pattern. I've been known to photograph random stuff, just so I can go back and draw on it for reference.

A quote I live by is from Constantin Brancusi: "Create like a god. Command like a king. Work like a slave."
