In advance of the 2010 Emmys - which air Sunday, Aug. 29 - I wanted to forecast the outcome in the major categories and gripe about who got snubbed. This week, the comedies. Next week, the dramas.

In advance of the 2010 Emmys - which air Sunday, Aug. 29 - I wanted to forecast the outcome in the major categories and gripe about who got snubbed. This week, the comedies. Next week, the dramas.

Lead Actor:

Jim Parsons - "The Big Bang Theory"

Larry David - "Curb Your Enthusiasm"

Matthew Morrison - "Glee"

Tony Shalhoub - "Monk"

Steve Carell - "The Office"

Alec Baldwin - "30 Rock"

Who will win: In a bit of an upset, I'm predicting Parsons. It's a weak field, and last year's winner, Baldwin, didn't have a great season (neither did "30 Rock, for that matter).

Who should win: Eh, weakest field of all major categories.

Left out: Zachary Levi ("Chuck"), David Duchovny ("Californication"), Adam Scott ("Party Down"). None of these three had a chance, but they're all better than the nominees.

Lead Actress:

Lea Michele - "Glee"

Julia Louis-Dreyfus - "The New Adventures of Old Christine"

Edie Falco - "Nurse Jackie"

Amy Poehler - "Parks & Recreation"

Tina Fey - "30 Rock"

Toni Collette - "United States of Tara"

Who will win: In a battle of the Showtime stars, I'll go with Falco because the voters love her. But don't be surprised if Collette wins.

Who should win: Collette's multiple personalities showed more range (and humor) than Falco's pill-addicted narcissist.

Left out: None - mostly good choices and I'm glad to see Poehler get some credit for the underrated "Parks & Recreation."

Supporting Actor:

Chris Colfer - "Glee"

Neil Patrick Harris - "How I Met Your Mother"

Jesse Tyler Ferguson - "Modern Family"

Eric Stonestreet - "Modern Family"

Ty Burrell - "Modern Family"

Jon Cryer - "Two and a Half Men"

Who will win: Tough to call, but Stonestreet is fantastic and the standout from an excellent ensemble cast. One word: Fizbo.

Who should win: My vote would go to Nick Offerman of "Parks & Recreation," who got woefully snubbed.

Left out: So many - Offerman, Danny Pudi ("Community"), Ed O'Neill ("Modern Family"), Peter Facinelli ("Nurse Jackie"), Justin Kirk ("Weeds"), Martin Starr ("Party Down"), Ted Danson ("Bored to Death"), and Charlie Day and Danny DeVito ("It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia").

Supporting Actress:

Jane Lynch - "Glee"

Julie Bowen - "Modern Family"

Sofia Vergara - "Modern Family"

Kristen Wiig - "Saturday Night Live"

Jane Krakowski - "30 Rock"

Holland Taylor - "Two and a Half Men"

Who will /should win: No contest - Lynch.

Left out: Bump Krakowski, Taylor and Wiig - SNL doesn't belong in this category - for Merritt Wever ("Nurse Jackie"), Jenna Fischer ("Office") and Alison Brie ("Community").

Comedy Series :

"Curb Your Enthusiasm"

"Glee"

"Modern Family"

"Nurse Jackie"

"The Office"

"30 Rock"

Who will win: Most likely "Glee," but

Who should win: "Modern Family" had a great first year and deserves the recognition.

Left out: Could have been a strong category if the right shows were nominated. Toss everything but "Modern Family" and "Glee," add "Parks & Recreation," "Community," "Party Down" and "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia."
