If Alive Photo Editor Will Shilling's ringing endorsement isn't enough (it's his favorite festival!), there are loads of rides and games, delicious food, kick-ass tractor pulls, a grand parade, live music and some of the most fantastically outlandish contests around.

Why you should go:

If Alive Photo Editor Will Shilling's ringing endorsement isn't enough (it's his favorite festival!), there are loads of rides and games, delicious food, kick-ass tractor pulls, a grand parade, live music and some of the most fantastically outlandish contests around.

What to eat & drink:

Nothing is better than hot, buttered corn in season, but if you're looking for something more than a few ears, you're covered. Ohio charitable organizations will serve up home-cooked dishes - a refreshing change from the deep-fried offerings at most festivals.

Entertainment:

This year's festival boasts some top-notch country acts. Country legend David Frizzell, best known for his early-'80s No. 1 single "I'm Gonna Hire a Wino to Decorate our Home," will take the stage at 8 p.m. Friday. And Darryl Worley's Tennessee twang has brought him several No. 1 hits, like "Awful, Beautiful Life" and "Have You Forgotten?" Worley will play at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Don't miss:

Some of the wackiest contests at any festival this year. Obviously there are corn-on-the-cob-eating contests for all ages. And the tractor pulls - including an antique division with machines from before 1959 - are only outdone by the three-person outhouse races.
