If there's one thing that unites us as people, it's that no matter your race, creed or sexual preference, there's a word people use to describe you that is very nasty. It's what we all have in common. That, and masturbation.

But even within the world of derogatory slurs, the reigning and undefeated champion is still the N-word, which is why it was such a shock to hear radio host Dr. Laura Schlessinger use it on her radio show.

She was answering a call from a black woman whose white husband's friends would make insensitive racial remarks, and the woman was wondering how she should handle this.

Schlessinger began her response with, "Listen, without giving much thought "

Stop right there - I think you might want to give a question like that some thought. Otherwise you may end up thoughtlessly spewing the most hurtful word in the English language on your syndicated radio program.

"N-----, n-----, n----- is what you hear on HBO listening to black comics, you hear n-----, n-----, n-----. I didn't call anybody a n-----," Schlessinger said.

If that wasn't bad enough, she followed it up with, "If you're that hypersensitive about color and don't have a sense of humor, don't marry out of your race."

Maybe they should make that part of the vows. Do you , reasonable black lady , take this white man to be your lawfully wedded husband , or are you going to be some uppity bore who gets upset every time his friends direct racial slurs at you?

The fury caused by Schlessinger's words forced her to do some real soul-searching. And what better place to search for souls than on a show hosted by the Crypt Keeper - "Larry King Live"?

"I've made the decision not to do radio anymore. The reason is I want to regain my First Amendment rights. I want to be able to say what's on my mind and in my heart and what I think is helpful and useful without somebody getting angry," said Schlessinger on the show.

Wait, you're quitting because you want to control people's reactions to the crazy crap you say, and the best way to be a more effective voice for your followers is to quit your job? Enter Sarah Palin.

Palin tweeted: "Dr. Laura: don't retreatreload (steps aside bc her 1st amend.rights ceased 2exist thx 2activists trying 2silence "isn't America, not fair").

So to translate, Palin believes it's a violation of the First Amendment for someone to feel public pressure to leave their job just because they used an offensive term.

This may seem weird because Palin wanted President Obama to fire his Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel because he called the ideas of some liberal groups retarded.

Even by Palin's logic, Schlessinger's actions were much worse because she dropped the N-bomb 11 times to Emanuel's single use of the R-word. Yet Palin thinks she should reload, and Emanuel should've been fired. I smell a hypocrite.
