In another bit of festival food fun, 60 heads of cabbage have become 100 pounds of sauerkraut, thanks to the singers-turned-gardeners of the Columbus Maennerchor.

The local men's chorus grew the greens at its German Village headquarters and will serve the final product during its Oktoberfest celebration running Oct. 1-2.

"We did one before," said Sue Gall, who manages the Zum Rathskeller restaurant. "It was so much different and so good. I haven't tasted this one yet. We were trying to save it as much as possible."

In addition to cabbage condiments, the festival will include beer, lots of polka and authentic German food.
