In the summers when I was in high school, I started working in a cabinet shop. At the time, it was just one of those things I was doing for no particular reason. I became really passionate about it and really started getting more and more into it.

Over the years, I've just picked up on things. Different guys you work with, you kind of just share knowledge. You see something you don't know how to do, you give it a shot and gradually you perfect it.

A little over a year ago, I started Dav id Tolford, LLC. My wife was pregnant with our second kid when I put my two weeks in. It was very intimidating, and it still is at times. I'm still growing this business and trying to make the right decisions.

Owning your own business is kind of like golf. If something's not right, there's only one person you can blame. I can't point to somebody else. The biggest thing for me is honesty. That's really all anyone is asking for.

Most of the stuff I do is residential. I've been doing more and more of the retail. I really enjoy doing that. There are just so many interesting people with some of these smaller businesses in Columbus. They have a lot of great ideas.

I like to use a lot of reclaimed wood. A lot of times when barns start to fall down, people will burn them. There are guys out now going around, picking up the reclaimed material and basically recycling it. The natural oxidation that happens to wood over time - you just can't get. Plus, it's got a story. People enjoy that.

I love to reuse things. I love to take something old and make something new out of it.

In my spare moments , I like to spend time with my family and friends. I like to watch sports. I am a Browns fan, and I have no idea why. I'm way too young to ever remember them being good. I'm from Findlay.

Three things I can't live without are my wife, my cell phone and my family.
