About 45 climbers of all skill levels converged Thursday night for Crank 'O' Ween 2, the latest event held at local bouldering gym Kinetic.

"This was just to support the Columbus climbing community by having an event," said Tony Reynaldo, who opened the small Olde North venue in 2008. "It's a morale-booster. Everyone was challenging each other."

During the event, climbers had several hours to attempt routes and were scored according to the top six they completed. Reynaldo said that most routes were in the intermediate range, which reflected the number of young climbers who entered.

"I've only done two events - this one and the last one [Kinetic] had in the spring," said Chris Smallwood, an Ohio State University student who's been climbing for about a year. "It's all about not being too competitive - that's how everyone here is."

Climbers often spotted each other and shared tips, though prizes eventually were awarded to men and women in beginner, intermediate and advanced divisions.
