Since Curren$y's last visit to Columbus in April, he dropped "Pilot Talk," the best rap album to invade my headphones this year. Camp Lo producer Ski Beatz has the New Orleans emcee rapping on smooth grooves that feel ideal for his detail-rich stoner ruminations.

"King Kong" alone is stocked with more classic lines than most LPs. There Curren$y raps about women "hoping for a free ride to the top with me/ spending my cheese, smoking my broccoli" and boasts about his upstate homestead, "The view from my rocking chair you would not believe."

Ski's beats are rich with melody and texture but never oversaturated, like a perfectly packed spliff ready for the rapper to inhale and blow out genius tidbits.

Hopefully Curren$y will bust out the bulk of this record Friday at Skully's after an impressive slate of local talent including The 3rd, J. Osceola, DOB, Meechie Nelson, Majik and DJ Giovanny.
