When did you grow your first mustache?
I had a mustache actually in high school. They used to make us shave it off because I wrestled.
A lot of African-American men would get bumps when they would use razors early. You didn't want that, and the way to [avoid] that was to keep a mustache. In a way, that was the inspiration when I would wear the long chops and sometimes a slight beard.
Have you ever shaved it since?
I cut it for the first time last year. I had it off for almost a whole year. Then I grew it back. I kind of missed it a little bit.
Why wear a mustache?
I've always had it. I like a mustache.
Have you ever rocked other styles?
I used to wear it all the way down. I used to wear the sideburns connected to it.
I like it more angled up, and [my barber] kind of cut it almost straight across last week. So I'm trying to get it angled back again. I like a neatly groomed mustache in my older age.
How do you maintain it?
As you can see, I don't have a whole lot of hair, so I only need to go to the barber shop every two weeks or so. When I'm there, I always have them edge it up for me.
For the most part, I do it myself. The new regular razor I've got, it's got a little thing where you can edge, actually. I've got one of those straight razors, but my barber's a lot better at using that than I am.
Do you have a name for it?
No. I've never named my mustache. It's always been part of me. It's Archie - "The Griff."
