Need some extra spending money after the holidays? Want to start next year in a seat of local power?

Try applying for one of two open seats on the Columbus City Council. President Michael Mentel is stepping down in January to spend more time with family, and Council member Charleta Tavares was elected to the Ohio Senate in November.

Applications will be accepted until 12 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, and remaining council members are slated to select their new peers around Jan. 10.

Qualified candidates should enjoy hearings on traffic cameras, exhibit comprehensive knowledge of the snow-warrior fact sheet and desire to honor the Charity Newsies. Democratic voting record a plus.
