Jesse Malin was playing DIY shows before he hit high school as a member of Heart Attack, contemporaries of the Beastie Boys and Bad Brains. He then spent the '90s making glammed-up garage rock with D Generation.

But as the years went on and Malin went solo, he turned into one of those country-rockers who are secretly not very country or rockin' at all. Don't feel bad for mistaking his 2010 offering "Love It to Life" for a Pete Yorn album.

You know who does rock, though? Vug Arakas. The local, whose band is now simply called Vug (no " and the Stallions"), will open Saturday's Summit show.
