Within the past 18 months, the Small Business Beanstalk has partnered with 350 local businesses and convinced 70,000 Central Ohio residents to support them by using a free community discount card.

It's been a whirlwind start - and the company isn't slowing down.

"We essentially want to be able to reach all of Central Ohio by the end of 2012," founder Timothy Wolf Starr said.

The group plans to announce new strategies and goals tonight at a news conference at the Martini Shot Bistro, located inside the Gateway Film Center.

Upcoming developments include new neighborhood partnerships, outreach initiatives to Ohio State students and an app to locate mobile food vendors.

"I'm very surprised by the way it's moved - more about what's about to happen than what has already happened," said Starr, who predicts that the number of cardholders will double within the next three months.

The news conference also will feature an SBB documentary produced by a local high-school student. All guests will receive a free Gateway movie pass.
