To this critic's knowledge, "Your Highness" is the first film to feature both full-frontal Minotaur nudity and two recent Academy Award nominees.

So, yeah, the humor is plenty low-brow. But that doesn't mean it's dumb, because there are also some smart, funny people involved. In fact, that's where a little disappointment lies.

Prince Thadeous (Danny McBride, who co-wrote the script) is the vulgar, underachieving brother of brave Prince Fabious (James Franco).

Fabious' bride-to-be, Belladonna (Zooey Deschanel), is kidnapped by an evil wizard, and the brothers must save her. Their wild encounters include an undersized pot-smoking wizard, a beautiful warrior (Natalie Portman) and the aforementioned mythical creature's genitalia.

Helming this bit of extreme medieval silliness is "Pineapple Express" director David Gordon Green.

He's a regular collaborator with McBride, and the two seem to be on the same page humor-wise.

Whether you share that sense of humor will make all the difference. If silly and crude is to your liking, you might laugh regularly (as I did) - especially at the work of the more serious actors.

I was expecting cult classic, and "Highness" falls a bit short. It probably could have made another pass under the editor's blade; some of the gags swing and miss.

Still, I'd expect it to improve on repeat viewings. Especially once you're ready for the Minotaur.
