A new beauty salon in Powell has put the rehab a few feet away from the bar.

"Rehab" is the name of b/rose Beauty Bar's shampooing station, where stylists analyze customers' hair and apply a conditioning treatment to repair any damage. The "bar" is where clients pull up a stool and watch as hairdressers mix colors and dyes.

"It's fun for the guests," said co-owner Rebekah Keller of the salon setup and bohemian chic decor, "but really we want to be as open as possible and teach the client."

From styling tips to straightening-iron maintenance, the staff at b/rose puts special emphasis on education. Keller and fellow owner Andi Bragg said it was natural to make that a priority at their new business.

Both women are national educators for Paul Mitchell, whose hair products are the only ones used and sold at b/rose. It also offers Jane Iredale mineral cosmetics.

Cuts cost $25 and $50, depending on the stylist, color starts at $45 and Global Keratin smoothing services are $200 (that includes the cost of the straightening system's take-home products).

Also on the menu at b/rose are basic manicures, makeup application and free paraffin hand waxes for anyone getting a chemical or rehab hair service.

"We really want to make people feel good," Bragg said, "and offer a fun experience."

Example: girls' nights. Call the salon, tell them how many friends are in your party and they'll start making room in their schedule. Groups can mingle as members get blow-outs or have their makeup done before a night out.

Guys love the salon too, Keller said. One client recently grabbed a beer at Liberty Tavern next door while he waited for his turn in the chair.
