Animated import "Mia and the Migoo" is a sight to behold. Created from about a half-million hand-painted frames, it's like a storybook dancing on the screen.

Unfortunately, the story doesn't live up to the pictures. It's a convoluted tale of a little girl's search for her father, a land-development deal and possibly some monsters.

The style is reminiscent of "Spirited Away," but there's less magic, particularly because this English-dubbed version occasionally has the awkward dialogue rhythm of an old "Speed Racer" episode.

Kid-friendly art-house movies are a nice change of pace. Wish this one was better.
