Big K.R.I.T.

Big K.R.I.T.

Skully's

9 p.m. Friday, May 20

1151 N. High St., Short North

Mississippi's Big K.R.I.T. is a hyper-intelligent hybrid between the Southern swag of T.I. and Big Boi and the art-conscious ambition of Kanye West circa "Late Registration." But when he stalked the stage at SXSW, David Banner's crunk stomp came to mind.

K.R.I.T.'s reflective and rousing new "ReturnOf4Eva" mixtape is the best rap release of the year so far (sorry, Tyler). His show Friday at Skully's doubles as the culmination of Power 107.5 and Royal Columbus' "Are You Radio Ready?" talent contest.

Young Jeezy

The Mansion

Whoever booked this against Big K.R.I.T. ruined rap fans' Friday night. Trap or die or go to the competing show at Skully's.

Great Architect

Carabar

Charlotte's "supernatural jazz" freaks offer the most lively and unpredictable romp conceivable in a genre many presumed to be dead and stale.

TV Ghost

The Summit

9 p.m. Friday, May 20

2210 Summit St., Campus

Lafayette, Indiana's TV Ghost still makes gnarled, spooky post-punk, but they've definitely moved toward the middle with "Mass Dream," an album haunted by spirits from Ian Curtis to Screamin' Jay Hawkins.
