I started making music in 1999, when I was in high school. I was really into it all the way through college. I got to a point where I felt like I was doing the same thing over and over again. Eventually, I thought I would end up making the exact same song that someone else made. I really didn't make anything from '04 until starting this project.

I started listening to Steely Dan two years after their last album came out. I found the music really interesting. I could listen to it over and over and pick out new things. There was an instrumental part of a song - and I just knew it'd make a great sample.

I don't think I ever took the m off my iPod from 2005 until now. It's obvious that they are master musicians. They only work with the best of the best. Their output is as impeccable as you can get. But there's more to it than the sound of the music. I think the content of the lyrics is really interesting, too.

Three things I can't live without are family, a creative output to be able to make things and Mountain Dew.

"Day Glow Freaks" i s an homage - it's not me trying to be a famous musician. A couple guys like Steely Dan, who are so talented and so protective of their work, could really hate me for doing this. I wasn't going to back down from it, but I wanted to be as respectful as I could. I put a lot of work in to make sure that everything was credited. Plus, I don't have any way to make money off of it.

I don't do any live performances. I don't know how.

I think people are surprised that the project was possible. I had a little party at work to kind of expose my circle to it. People really liked it. Getting it outside my circle is a bit tougher.

Some of my friends give me a hard time. It seems like I'm always doing some project that I'm not getting paid for and that's requiring tons of time. Luckily my wife is awesome, and she understands.
