If ever there was a suburban district ripe for a fun summer festival, it's Creekside Park in Olde Gahanna. And Creekside Blues & Jazz Fest does it right.

If ever there was a suburban district ripe for a fun summer festival, it's Creekside Park in Olde Gahanna. And Creekside Blues & Jazz Fest does it right.

There's music, of course, with separate blues and jazz lineups headlined by heavy hitters. Bill "Watermelon Slim" Homans and James "Super Chikan" Johnson will ensure the blues stage has no shortage of guitar solos or nicknames. Former Ohio State trumpet professor Pharez Whitted, now based in Chicago, will team with Liquid Crystal Project to headline the jazz stage. More than 100 other performers are also on tap.

Paddleboat rides and amusement park attractions are fun for romance or a day out with the kids. The youthful demo also can learn in a fun way at the "Musical Discovery Zone." Foodies will enjoy the abundance of local vendors and the jazz brunch at Mezzo. Arts and crafts? There's plenty of that, too.

Just don't fall in the creek and you're bound to have a blast.
