Sightseeing tours aboard Earth's largest airship will be available in Columbus Friday through Sunday, June 17-19.

The Farmers Airship, a zeppelin, holds 12 passengers, floats 1,200 feet above ground and measures 15 feet longer than a Boeing 747. Tickets for a 45-minute tour cost $375, and flights depart from the Ohio State University Airport.

Generally flights are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 5 p.m. until dusk to avoid high winds and afternoon thunderstorms.

So how's the ride?

Unlike blimps, zeppelins are built with rigid interior skeletons, so engines can be placed away from passengers, spokeswoman Rachel Loya said.

"It's very smooth, very quiet," she explained. "One of our passengers described it as taking off in an armchair and floating on a cloud."
