Small-town angst is a great artistic motivator. That notion that no one around you quite understands usually forces you into your own forms of expression.

Small-town angst is a great artistic motivator. That notion that no one around you quite understands usually forces you into your own forms of expression.

Zanesville, as I know all too well, can be one of those places.

The Zanesville Artist Showcase will be highlighting a stable of artists from the cultural hub of southeast Ohio. Curated by Zanesville native (and current Columbus resident) Brittany Stigler, the show at Gallery 831 in the Brewery District celebrates the city's growing arts scene.

Some participating artists apparently balked at the show's original name, "Zanesville Doesn't (Have To) Suck." It's a shame, because that sure does capture that Y-City angst.
