Che 3 Mau ($3.75)
In a chilly place somewhere between a crazy parfait, a kooky (un)smoothie and a tropical milkshake lies the coco-nutty Che 3 Mau. Roughly translating to "Tea in three colors," it's a classic, semi-sweet Vietnamese treat not really made with tea. Actually, it's a marvelous multi-layered confection composed of unexpectedly harmonious stuff like (brace yourself): blobs of gelatin, beans and milk. Yeah, it sounds strange to Western brains, but I promise it'll delight Ohio palates. Huong's fun-tastic Che 3 Mau is a tall glass packed with ice cubes, Jell-O (flavor: green), mung beans (lend a pleasing viscosity), more dense-chewing and mildly sweetened beans plus condensed and coconut milks. This results in a vanilla-inflected free-wheeling carnival of textures and colors and a three-ring circus to eat, slurp and drink.
