Chicken Salads ($10/pound)
When's the last time you bit into a chicken salad so great it provoked a double take? Well, prepare to jerk your smiling and surprised head - this picnic-perfect trio from Kitchen Little is that delicious. Each is made with big meaty chunks of locally raised poultry, plus a modicum of mayo to bind it together. Cleverly, they access a palette of bold flavors from hot weather populations (i.e. experts at beating the heat) that range from Indian to Mexican to Southeast Asian.
• Sweet Curry Refreshingly aromatic, slightly sweet and slightly spicy, its curry character is balanced and broadened by the fruity chew of plump raisins and bits of crispy celery.
• Chipotle with Cilantro Strewn with adobo-drenched snippets of chipotles, this arousingly smoky salad can pack quite the chili wallop - some of which gets mediated by minty, fresh and locally grown cilantro.
• Lemon and Leek I'm crazy about this one's bright and lively citric aspect, and it's likely my favorite. Threads of fresh lemon zest and various oniony elements positively explode on your tongue in chicken magnificence.
